  • There is a mouse in mi house!

I am not sure if I am posting this in the right place.

But I think we have a mouse living under my kitchen sink. I have noticed really small droppings. Only noticed the droppings twice(Removed when noticed).

There is work men currently working at the back of us making new houses. It use to be a unused land. And there is loads of wildlife around me. The work men have disturbed them and took there home away and they seem to have found shelter under my kitchen sink. We think they have climbed up the pipe and got in that way.

I don't want to kill it, has anyone got any ideas on catching it?

You should be able to get a humane trap from BnQ or suchlike - I've found in the past that peanut butter worked better s bait than cheese but your mouse may have different tastes

check for any holes in your outside walls, particularly around where pipes or cables go through them. A mouse can squeeze through something the size of a pencil in thickness. Block any found with whatever seems appropriate, eg cement or builders foam - I usually put some pieces of broken glass in the latter before it sets - but then I do my own DIY, so I know to be careful if making changes later.

Don't put cement into direct contact with copper pipe though, nasty reaction that ends in leaks.

Well the mouse seems to like eating slug pellets. Found two holes in it. Where the hole is under the sink there is also a gap for the mouse to get in behind the kitchen unit. Think thats where it is and then comes out to find food under the sink. I will get a trap(Not to kill it) to catch it and then take it to another field where it can live.

There's a moose loose aboot the hoose!! Those humane traps work a treat Carrie, use chocolate buttons they love them and take him far away. I caught a mouse in our kitchen caught it and put it over the fence. My OH laughed and said it was probably back in the house before me...he was right!!

Mice are opportunistic eaters and will nibble at everything to see if they like it but then may never go back to it for more.

What are you going to do with the mice once you've caught them?

Apparently mice hate peppermint - I keep a bottle of peppermint oil in my shed and leave saturated bits of cotton wool about.

It sounds awkward having a mouse to rehome,I'd end up having a pet mouse or something,it would need food at its new field or it will starve & be lost,is there a cheese factory nearby with bins overflowing with cheese? Slug pellets are poison to mice & can affect birds like owls that eat the mice & get secondary poisoning, dogs have eaten slug pellets too, they smell attractive to all unfortunately.

Can't keep them as a pet as it's an offence to take an animal from the wild.

And they don't like cheese! It's a popular misconception.

There is a field on the other side of the road so I will be putting the little mouse there. There is other wildlife that is in that field to.

There is other wildlife in the field I will take it to. It's just a shame that work men have destroyed there home to build houses.
