  • Squirrel proof pots

    Hi
To stop the squirrels digging up all my spring bulbs in pots, I bought some drawstring netted laundry bags and pulled them over my pots, the bulbs are still in tact!!

Much as I love the Reds who visit here daily and am daft enough to spend much £££ on hazelnuts for them, I do draw the line when they dig up the bulbs.

Last Autumn I covered pots with a 2" layer of 10mm pea shingle and that seems to have worked.

Chicken wire just under the surface seems to have worked for me!!

Hi Bilbo & Nicos I tried pea gravel and bark they just flung it all out and made a huge mess along the way!!. They seem to work in pairs down my way!!! They've also gnawed their way through 3 plastic bird feeders. Can see that chicken wire might work.

On the bird feeder front, you can mix chilli powder in with the feed - birds can't taste it, but it will hopefully make the squirrels regret ever raiding your feeder
