    Hi Debjay
Log onto You Tube, and just type Cold Smoker in the search box, then watch loads of videos showing various ways of building your own. Hope you find one that suits

I expected to see lots of pictures of people smoking ciggies by their back door! Sorry.

This is something I fancy making myself!

Theoretically all you need is a container (Old fridge is ideal!) with a hole cut in top and bottom, link a pipe to the bottom or even a trench in the soil covered by tin sheeting with soil on top. Link the other end of pipe or trench to a wood burning stove flue.

As long as the fridge is far enough away from the stove the smoke will be cold by the time it gets there and after smoking the produce will be vented through the hole in the top.

Burning different hardwoods give different flavours. I have tried Oak on hot smoking and it is really nice, Hickory is another flavour and there must be loads more!

OH made one last year from an old oil drum - I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow. He did cheese and some trout and both were delicious!

I tried smoking cheese before, but I couldn't get the b*stard thing to light!

(sorry, someone had to, and it might as well be me!)

I would truly love to be able to 'smoke' foodstuffs.
And I know smoked food isn't incredibly good for one, but hey! there might be a bus along tomorrow!
Please keep this thread going with any useful information and I shall keep my eye on it!

I think a lot of the problem, especially with hot smoking is the amount of salt used!

I always thought it was carcinogens produced by the smoke.

Surely the fish oil counter-acts it?
