    Hi all,

Don't know if anyone has tried this before but I have used plastic meat trays you get form supermarket packaging to make a propagator.

With paper pots its a great way of recycling and its seems to be working well so far.

Here is my efforts with my BIG Jim's for the chilli competition.

I have done that too Damn plastic is unavoidable these days! May as well use it before I send it away to the recycling.

Yup, we're making seed trays out of those blue plastic trays mushrooms come in (what's wrong with a paper bag anyway?).
Am I the only one who rips off excessive packaging and leaves it in the shop? !

If you go into Tescos and but Profita Rolls, the clear plastic top fits striaght onto a 9" pot and makes a lovely propogator, as do the same type of tops from the Big Green Bogey Dome Cake (as Mr D calls it) that Morrisons do!

I save all the supermarket plastic trays, mushrooms come in blue trays with a clear plastic lid and these make excellent small propagators (remember to make holes in the trays for drainage)

I also use all plastic trays / pots to sow in. My recycle bin is always nearly empty because waste not want not.

I may try this with my chilli & peppers as I sowed them about 3 weeks ago and nothing is happening.

Another tip that someone once told me was rather than putting a tin can in the bin, open it both ends, place it over a weed on your grass, spray on your weed killer and leave for a few days. This way you only kill the weed and not the grass around it. I have tried it a few times, but my grass is full of weeds and i would need i industrial size can for it to work.

Re: can weed killer, thanks for this I used it on my young lawn and will continue to use it in the future, smashing tip. x
