  • Hollowing whole pumpkin

I have just spent ages, 4 different knives and bent a spoon while hollowing a whole pumpkin so DD can make a Hallowe'en face thingy. After about half an hour..........

    Inspiration...........

    Ice Cream scoop - wow

I apologise if it's common knowledge but I am still only learning

Anyway for anyone else who is as unknowledgeable as me, the best technique is to hold pump on side and scrape scoop downwards like a mouse in a wheel, all other techniques involve effort.

Now have enough for two batches of pumpkin soup (one to freeze) and a pumpkin pie (friends to dinner tonight - fish pie in the middle )

I have a nice stainless steel ice cream scoop for exactly this purpose every year.one of the fixed ones rather than with the 'release' mechanism.
I also noted in another thread you can stick your pumpkin in the microwave first to make it easier, not sure it would fit in mine though.

One of my investments when we lived in the States was a full pumpkin carving kit makes easy work of it (once you have cut it's top off)

We put up the Halloween decorations today - if it is a clear night we will try to get a piccy to post.

The forecast was so bad we decided to put the lights up while it was dry today. Madmax will be working all week so we ran the risk of not getting the house ready for our party on Friday. Now blowing a hooligan and chucking it down so no piccies tonight!

well as my pumpkins are still the size of a large apple, i'm guessing an ice cream scoop will be too big lol ....... but at least they are big enough for a tea light
