  • Free Compost Bins

I have picked 4 new compost bins now from freecycle:

    http://www.freecycle.org/group/UK/

People are buying or getting them free from the council and not using them. Register on you local Freecycle and wait for one to come up or put a wanted post on.

I got two of the Big ones 330l the other week and a 220l yesterday. I just have to drive 5 mins up the road to pick it up.

Freecycles great, we've had some good from there. Some people seem a bit greedy with their 'wants' though.

what annoys me about freecycle is the plebs that want sat navs or laptops etc. they seem to post everyday, is it just ours or do they need better moderators to try to stop these blatant posts.

        Freecycle is GREAT !!

        I find freecycle is great

        Success so far include.....

Greenhouse - in near perfect order
Carpet - great for supressing weeds (not foam)
Glass - for homemade cloches etc
        Doors/Windows - for allotment coldframe
Tallboy - superb quality for the baby's room
        manure

Although it is amazing the selfish people on there and those who take from freecycle to sell on ebay!

At first my wife thought I was mad - now she's more hooked than I am! and love's our trips out

Totally agree with you both. I love our local recycling centre to, it has a re-sale area. Leave with more than we arrive with most times.

Most of our plot is reclaimed stuff and loads in house to. LOVE IT

The rules say that you cant ask for stuff like TV and Laptops and the Mods should ban them.

I now wait once I put an item on to see who wants it so the same people don't get it.

I wish my tip would have a recycle area.

Freecycle is great for getting rid of things - I just offloaded a rusty old bike that someone had dumped in my garden, and mum had a load of glass taken from her allotment shed, heaps of it.
It saves me driving out to the dump!

I got loads of stuff and also managed to give lots of stuff away. But these are most of the time second hand items, well used and up for the skip. Anything saleable is usually going into the yellow paper in my area. Saying that, I got a brandnew compost bin from there. Luckily I spraypainted my name on it, as it got legs when it was empty - i think the smae happened to the empty compostbin I first noticed on my plot when I got it and which suddenly was gone.
Saying that, we have got a very strong wind from the sea, espacially in winter. I always have to run after my lids.

Get a rechargable drill and drill a hole in the lid and the bin and tie the togather. That is what I do.
