  • Fellow Freegle and Freecyclers on here?

Are there any fellow FREEGLERS and/or FREECYCLERS on here?
What have you offered and what fab stuff have you aquired?
The net curtains (for keeping out the damaging bugs) and spare garden fork have proved really useful.

I have been given a waterbutt, some debris netting and some old windows for the building of a cold frame at some point. Oh and some watercress plants ready to seed. I regularly give my surplus plants away on freecycle.

I've also been given a water butt! Which is great at the moment. I put quite a bit of stuff on there and get the most random stuff back?! I've put a Christmas cake, fairy lights, picture frames, fridgefreezer, old oven, and plenty more. I've collected an organ for a friend, a sofa (that looked brand new!), another fridge freezer, blue glass bottles for my wedding!!! I think freecycle is great! But I am sad because mine doesn't seem to be working at the moment I can offer stuff and reply to emails but my replies to other peoples posts don't seem to work so I miss out on the things I'd like I missed out on a vintage kenwood mixer the other week

I've given away all sorts of things from new electric sockets to a metal bed and have received lots of items too. Once got a load of storage heater bricks (something like 85 of them). The blue ones that can't be used outside work in the greenhouse as a thermal mass to balance day/night temps and my lotty shed is standing on the brown ones.

I use freecycle, more to rehome than receive. I've rehomed lots of children's stuff, toys, clothes, uniform. It's amazing what people can find a use for. I do sometimes get cross with the wanted ones where basically it's to furnish and whole house but the leather sofa has to be in good condition and the correct colour. And then there's the people who don't reply to offers or worse still turn up to collect. Just niggles really but I'd much rather give something away than throw away.

I always think you'll get what you're given and delete the email!

going to pick an apple tree that's laden tomorrow, by the looks of it they're eaters, possibly discovery. Although i'm not too fussed as I use loads in chutneys etc...

I have had similar experiences Wendy. You have to laugh at some of the "wants"!! Who knows somebody might want a car next.
I still enjoy giving and receiving though. I have given loads of stuff away and appreciate being saved from treking to the recycle centre.
I am also a skip rat and have found some good stuff just being chucked away!?! I always ask if it is ok to take stuff. Folk seem pleased for me to create more space in their skip.

I've seen Asks for cars - must have MOT, and caravans, and boats
I've got rid of lots of things and acquired some good stuff myself. In my front garden there's an olive, 2 phormiums and some fancy grass - all from freecycle. And, of course there's the trampoline frame http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ase_67800.html

Someone posted that they wanted a Jaguar XJ something or other in the last month on the one i'm part of!!!

Similar gripes as to above, people asking for perfectly functioning lawnmowers, strimmers, etc! And people not collecting when they say they will. I've given away loads of stuff that i can't be bothered to ebay since we moved.

Best thing i've ever recieved was about 5 big bags of woodchip for the garden! I'm just about to ask people for empty Grolsch bottles as i'm going to make cider next week and will want something to store it in!

See lots of cheeky requests on our local one. Personally I've only ever asked for empty wine bottles (which I received in abundance), though I did take the donor a couple of bottles in exchange.

Have given away various items but it can be thankless sometimes especially if you get mucked about.

Have been a lucky recipient of a wine rack and some small used plant pots.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.

I find annoying when they don't read it properly, say they want it and then decide they don't want it after all because its broken! even when it is clearly stated that it isn't working!

I have to admit I love freecycle...although I've learned I need to be super quick in replying to any emails. So far I've managed to get a load of used flowerpots (which had some root trainers thrown in). An old door which has been converted into a cold frame. A compost bin, a water barrel, a garden bench, and some white plastic garden furniture (two tables, two side tables and a drinks trolley). I also got some Swiss chard seedlings which have been cropping for weeks now.

I am hoping to be able to offer loads of stuff from my loft in the not too distant future, as I want to make sure I give back at least as much as I get.

I agree with others on this thread though...I'm quite often shocked at the wanted posts. I just keep trying to remind myself that firstly if you don't ask, you won't get and secondly, it's tough times for many of us, so perhaps there's no harm in being cheeky. For me, it's the re-offering posts that bug me. Not the poor person re-offering stuff, but the No shows. Why say you want something, only not to collect? Someone in my area had to post an ornate Harrods dining table about 4 times due to no shows.
