  • cheap-ish netting in Ikea

Went to Ikea yesterday on the way back from Bristol, they have net curtains, like mosquito netting, size 2.8m by 3m, cost, £2.85.
If you only have a small patch, they'll do the job.

I got a couple of packs on eBay as it's cheaper than driving to my nearest Ikea - works a treat!

it was me what mentioned it and i love them! sewing them together has been a bit of a pain but NO damage at all to cauli, broccoli, cabbage or straws this year....well worth the trip as far as i am concerned. Pity hubby destroyed one with the lawnmower this year but hopefullly will have replaced grass paths with woodchips next year so no harm done!

Top tip, I'll look out for them. Mr TS has just announced he's (we're) off to the Lakeside one as part of his "do something different no-diet diet"

6 hrs in the car, then Ikea? I'd better take earplugs and Valium

LOL TS - He's madder than I thought!

I have to add, having used my Ikea nets for two years now. They do not last as well as the Garden Centre netting. Ya gets wot ya pays for! The fabric rips very easily, and also rots if left out. Yes, I know it's my fault, but I can't be the only lazy person who didn't go and clear up before last winter's snow, can I?

            I will be getting more...

Well, I got some. I'll have to remember to bring them in as soon as I can

No good for carrots though: I needed net with holes smaller than the carrot fly

I used these for my brassicas and they worked a treat I also doubled some up to shade the greenhouse much to the amusement of the other plot holders who asked when I was putting the curtains up

I've used net curtains as shade netting for about 4 years now - I even bought a 10m length of net curtain wire to rig them up with... I have had similar comments too but they work brilliantly

Without wanting to sound silly, but probably will, hoe do you use your nets. We're just about to put raised beds in and was going to get some piping/tubing and netting to make a sort of poly tunnel. My thinking is to give everything some height to grow and protect it. Would this work? And if so would this netting be ok?

Yes, that's exactly what it's used for. Fine netting against carrot fly, slightly less fine is OK as butterfly net on brassicas
