  • Cheap fruit trees and bushes

    Hi all,

A quick note whilst busy at work

Just been to Woolworths on me lunch hour and just got myself a grape vine and kiwi tree for less than a fiver for the both. And they are guranteed to grow or your money back.

They had loads of different fruit all on sale as well as flowers and other garden stuff.

Maybe worth a look if you pass by one

Cool! I was in woolies in Stretford on Monday, but they didnt have anything at all, let alone such a good bargain! Will perhaps have to have another trip out! I'd love some Kiwi to grow up the back of our house!

I bought lots of bulbs from Woolies cos they were cheap and none of them came up. I didn't know I could have got my money back, but then again, how would you prove it? I also bought a jap maple for about £4 which was a bargain but really I felt sorry for it because it and all it's siblings were in a very sorry state. I'm happy to say after nursing and lots of TLC, we now have a nice little bonsai maple in a pot by the front door. Hardy little b****gers they are.

            question!

What is everyone doing with all their bushes/trees etc when they have bought them? My lottie bit for fruit etc is still very overgrown so I can't plant them straight away.
Could I leave them in the little wrappers, or could I plant them in my back garden or pots, ready for transplanting later?

Deffinately worth planting in pots DDL. I have quite a bit of stuff planted in pots because I am hoping for another alottment in April so I need stuff mobile. If it falls through though the pots my fruit bushes are in will be ok for a good few years yet. Same with bulbs I got cheap, all planted in pots so I can move em around the lottie to brighten up a dark spot!
If you were just wanting to pot soft fruit trees until you got the area for them cleared, a florists bucket would be big enough, but if the stay was going to be long term a larger receptacle would be required!

Go for it DDL!!! Grab a bargain while it's there!

I planted six Morrisons blackcurrant bushes two years ago (cost 99p each) and they are huge now. Full of bud and I'm expecting a great crop this year.

                          A real bargain.

Wilkinsons have got all the gardening stuff back in the shops, along with fruit trees. Bought my son a Blackberry for £2.00, they had got pear and apple mini trees for £3 or £4 plus loads of seed pototoes and onions and shallot sets. My bargain was organic seaweed feed for £2.49 - Great!

I bought a Kiwi fruit plant today from Woolies - any tips for growing them please peeps? Sons love the darned things and I never remember to buy them as I totally detest furry fruit!!! Variety is Jenny - self fertile according to the label.
