  • best veg for shade

    I have a bed that only gets part shade during the day, can anyone recommend best veg for growing in the shade, been told beetroot , raddish up to now

    Lettuce, and generally any salad crops (they don't like to be hot and dry). However they do need reasonable light levels so if it's really deep shade then not very much will grow successfully.

      Not actually veg, but rasps and mint don't mind a bit of shade! Garlic should be ok as it was originally a woodland plant. Can't think of any others but quick growing salad crops would be worth a try!

        Most leafy salad stuff can cope in shade. In fact I think tnhey are less likely to bolt in shady places.
        Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.
