  • Strawberries in half baskets ?

Ive been growing tumbling toms in these half baskets for a few years now but they can be a bit of a pain to aqueeze by all the time, so im gonna switch to cordon cherry toms next season, so

i have shedfulls of strawberry plants currently in 3 inch pots and i was thinking of putting them in these half baskets, how many would fit in one basket do you think and would they overwinter ok in them ?

Its not easy to see how big your baskets are. I reckon to fruit properly strawberries need about a 5 inch pot, so if they are half 10 inch baskets you'd probably get 3 plants in, maybe 4 or 5 if they are 12 inches. This is cramming them in quite tight though - the recommended planting distance in soil is a foot apart.
