  • Sowing Onions Seeds

    Hi All

Soon will come the time to sow onion sets for over wintering. Can I now also so onions from seed? Would I get an earlier crop next year like I would if I sowed onion sets?

    Thanks for the help

I'll be sowing seeds pretty down but way too early for setts, they'd grow to much before the cold sets in.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yes, you can sow onion seeds in August for overwintering, and you should get an earlier crop. But it has to be a variety that's suitable for that purpose. And overwintering varieties usually don't store very long so you might want to sow a good storage variety in the spring too for your main onion supply.
