  • Patio Stella Cherries are really small and sour

I have 2 Stella cherry trees. the tree in the garden had sweet cherries ( only a few though- they all fell off in high winds) but my patio tree in a pot has given its first ever crop- and the cherries are very small and very sour. Has anyone ever had small sour Stella cherries before- or maybe Dobbies have wrongly labelled the cherry tree and it's not Stella at all.

    Any ideas anyone?

Young trees sometimes produce fruit of poor quality. Either the roots are too weak to supply the water and nutrients (a common problem in young trees on dwarf roots), or the leaves and shoots are stealing all the nutrients from the fruits.
Poor fruit quality is especially so for pot-grown trees if they have not been properly/regularly watered or adequately supplied with feed, as necessary.
