  • Unripe Currants being eaten.

    Hi all,

I just want confirmation really, my White and Red Currants are being stripped slowly but surely, yet they are still unripe....it's the Blackbirds isn't it?

Would putting fleece over them be ok or is netting/net curtains better?

    Thanks in advance.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs! https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gr...lies/smile.gif

I built a cage for mine this year. No problems so far with birds.

I have noticed if I water them well, it does knock off the odd berry.

    So far so good.

Nothing takes my unripe currants, in fact nothing takes the black currants even when they are ripe, although the reds and whites will suffer if I leave them uncovered. I just drape net curtains (dyed green) over the top. There's no real reason to dye them green except it looks better. I got a huge boxful from the charity shop and frankly they were the type that no-one, no matter how desperate or lacking in taste, would ever have hung at their windows so I think they charged me 50p for the lot.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
