  • Where to put rhubarb????

I have a shady area which is basically a path to fields behind my house. It has our garden fence on one side and lots of willows on the other with a stream in a ditch beyond. Is this too shady for rhubarb? We haven't got space for any in the garden.... Does rhubarb need lots of sun?

I've had to move mine from a shady spot as it wasn't growing, now doing fine in full sun!,I guess there are other reasons as well, but the commercials grow it in fields up here,so it's down to the soil as well I guess.

When I was a child, we had a damp, shady spot where my parents had had no success in growing plants. They were advised by a neighbour to plant rhubarb and it grew very successfully and the ground was no longer damp.

My parents had a large rhubab patch under a large plum tree (large enough for me to climb as a child), so they had plenty of shade. We were never short of rhubarb, but my dad always made sure they were well watered.
