  • Tomato seeds to swap for Black Forest courgette seeds

As I am a bit pushed for space and will be growing lots in pots, I was wondering if anyone could spare any Black Forest F1 Hybrid courgette seeds please.

I have read that these are climbers and are ideal for growing in pots so would hopefully like to give them a go this year.

I have the following to offer:

    Blondkopfchen heirloom tomato seeds

    Sweet Pea currant tomato seeds

Tom Thumb tomato seeds (not so unusual but I have a few spare)

    Ta.

Also have Rat Tail radish seeds if anyone fancies a go with those, the plants grow about 5ft tall and give you hundreds of small green radishes on the branches instead of underground.

Sorry cant offer you any to swap. I just wanted to say that I was going to grow these courgettes last year but decided against it as the reviews/comments on them were not very good. I understand you are short of space, but might be worth doing a bit of research before you go ahead with them. Sorry dont mean to stick my nose in, just dont want you to be disappointed :-)

Thanks Jilly. What type of bad comments did you read about them, did it relate to the taste?

No the coments were about the fact that they didnt climb and poor productivity, lack of crop. Check these links out

            21again,
If you want a courgette that climbs I would recommend Tromba d'Albenga. I grew them very succesfully up can wigwams last year. They look quite strange, if you google them you'll find a picture, but tasted good.
YOu do need to train them a little as they like to sprawl as well as climb, but I found you could just find a curly bit and tuck it round a cane

They are very tasty when 'smaller' but are a summer squash type rather than a 'traditional' courgette type. TBH I sometimes prefer the texture & taste of the Tromba.

Thanks folks, if anyone has any of those (Tromba d'Albenga) seeds to swap I would like to give those a go as they get such good reviews.

Hi Donna, a couple will be fine thanks. I had loads of Rats tail seeds as they produce hundreds and the plants grow about 5ft high by 3ft wide!

                    Will pm you.

I grew black forest last year and saying they are a climber is stretching it they need tying up and you need strong supports.they taste fine but i grew other bush varities in sequence so once one was getting too big i just pulled it and planted another

Oh dear, Donna got in before me. I also have some tromba D'albenga seeds which I would happily swap for some of those interesting sounding radishes. PM me if you want more than the 2 seeds and would also like to swap with me.
