  • Seedling swap / plant swap

    Hi

I have tonnes of seeds, but more pressingly, does anyone have any interest in swapping seedlings?

I am germinating all my plants in individual plugs and getting much higher rates than expected. Consequently, I already have 5 times more aubergines, pepper, chillis, leeks, herbs and tomatoes then I can plant.

Is anyone interested in swapping? I am very keen on anything that can be grown in containers!

If we are swapping, what is the best way to post seedlings?

    thanks

    Morris

    Hi Morris

Sounds interesting, perhaps if you pop your location into your profile, local grapes would come forward to save the expense of postage. Also, if you pop the varieties of each veg and the numbers, people would have more of an idea of what's on offer for a swap.

Try selling them at a car boot people always head for plants I know I do.

I sell mine at work, as there are lots of people (nearly 1000 on site, I think!) and an active "for sale" email list, but anywhere that you can contact a few dozen people is worth putting the word around - work, school playground, whatever. Much easier than trying to post fragile seedlings! I have bought young leeks via mail order, but that was in July and they were spring onion sized so easy to pack in a bundle.

These days I always sow more tomatoes, etc, than I need, because I know I can shift them. Tomatoes, courgettes and chillies sell like hot cakes

Eyren and JackieJ - how much do you sell them for?

I have sown lots of spare chillis, peppers and toms and will do some more next month. OH's kids take an interest in gardening so was going to sell the surplus and put the takings into their Holiday Piggy Bank.
