  • Searching for Rose "Janet"

Desperately want a rooted cutting of rose "Janet" (cream/pink climbing variety) in loving memory of mother-in-law who passed away this Saturday.

It is a tradition in our culture to plant things in memory of people we love or to celebrate an event.

I will be happy to pay a reasonable amount or exchange for anything I have extra in my garden.

    Thank you in advance.

David Austin Roses sell it for £13.50 and if you are quick they have extended their bare root season for May, so might get it slightly cheaper.

I am off to DA this weekend - I will go and ask Austin Jr.

Generally though, you can find the David Austin Roses at your national garden centre chain - Wyevale, aka Gardening Club have them, as do other chains. Try a ring around and let me know how you do before Saturday.

If I find one I will PM you. I have found David Austin to be very good at pulling stock out of their growing field if none in pots. I find it hard to believe they are truly OOS as their beds are always full whenever I visit, which is often. It maybe they are busy potting up at the moment, or are waiting for the grafted stock to take. If it's a climber it will be grafted onto a climbing rootstock. Does it have to be a climber?

yep, because we set up an arch it should grow over.

OK - have you had any joy yet around your local garden centres? I posted a link to the Wyevale centres.

                            Thank you, VVG!

                            - Garden link - do not have that variety in local Essex centres and can't be reserved and collected.

                            - Called David Austeen customer service today, no stock bare rooted or in pot, next available to order bare rooted from November.

                            - The rose is available on Giftaplant website, with delivery works out nearly £ 25. I am not paying that amount of money in principle for a stick with leaves on.

Well, I might have to wait and order for November if nothing else.

Did you ask if there is any stock in the fields? I wonder if Chelsea has any bearing on their stock levels. I find it most odd, because straight after Chelsea, when their season starts properly, every named table is usually filled. Peter Beales Roses have two with Janet in the title, although not the Janet that you are after.
