You only have another month to go, it will soon pass. The rules are just to make it fair for active members. Like most things there are peeps who take the piddle and things change to exclude them, unfortunately it is an inconvenience for others in the short time.

It is for the greater good......

The seed parcel is run by a grape who gives her time freely, she doesn't get paid, finding and packing seeds, keeping the catalogue upto date, not to mention trips to the post box/office take many hours of work. We have seen an increase in members just joining to take advantage of her generosity. The rules were revised to enable her to carry on with the seed parcel, being a member for three months and ensuring you have 50 posts isnt that bad, is it?

IF anyone thinks i am out of place then please complain or delite,

How do you think the seeds get to be free in the first place

A lot of peeps send seeds into the swap, purely so others can benefit,THE VINE MEMBERS,call it sharing the love,of gardening,i know,i for 1 have benefited from others sending things to me at their exspence,so i am therefore only to pleased to give to others, thats is what makes our vine so special AND friendly, the seeds ARE free, postage is NOT,after all,if buying from a company,it will cost you a lot lot more,i for 1 would be interested to know, how you thought the system did worked, and who paid YOUR postage,
sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these

Lottie - Flobalob has free seeds and doesn't qualify yet for VSP, but at the same time doesn't want to pay postage to send them places. (correct me if I am wrong)

In other words if people want them they are paying the postage.

NG - I took it the same way.

The way I understood it was that Flobalob wanted to give his seeds away but not pay postage which is fair enough. To me this reads as 'anyone nearby who can collect PM me'

To be fair I haven't fully read through all the seed swap rules as yet - I am new myself and learning the ropes; but it isn't compulsory to use VSP and is in addition to members arranging their own swaps/giveaways.

Therefore I think it is unfair to reprimand a member for trying to do something nice on a basis which suits him.

I don't know why folks would get offended at the member who chooses this option, it is ultimately a benefit to someone in the group and saves VC from being everyone's middle person which I understand is a heck of a lot of work.

OK, everyone, let me try to clarify a few things.

The revised VSP arrangements came into effect on 1st February. For Grapes who joined before that date there is some leeway about length of membership, but they will be expected to have been active (ie posting regularly) on the Vine during the previous year.
The 50 post requirement remains in place, as it always has done.
These "rules" have been applied to the Seed Swaps as well as the VSP for consistency.

If anyone wants to Giveaway seeds in exchange for a SAE that is their prerogative but, in order to protect them from newbies who join just for their seeds, they are advised to apply the same requirements about length of membership/posts.

It is impossible to make "rules" that cover every possible scenario. In the light of experience, these are the fairest we could come up with. http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...nce_76437.html

If you feel that you deserve exceptional treatment, feel free to PM me with your reasons.

Thank you for clarifying that small detail for me. Heaven knows why giving away something for free i need to justify not having to pay to have them delivered to your door at my expense.
I find it objectional also that having been a member of this forum for six years i am penalised at VSP for my lack of posting.
Thanks also to Bohobumble for the same clarification.
Perhaps dolly is somewhat wiser for that ?

You are not being penalised personally, the same rule would be applied to any other member that had not posted for an extended period.

Last comment and then I will shut up. Being active grapes really does make a difference and there are a lot of very generous grapes, however I have been unfortunate enough to do a swap and that grape has completely disappeared on me during the swap. There may be very good reason but until they re-emerge I will have no idea as to why and I am out of pocket for it (ok, its not a lot but it is the principle). It would be horrible it the later was a frequent thing on the forum.
