  • Cottage garden seeds wanted

    Hello

odd request I know but I want to turn my front garden into a cottage garden and instead of buying packs of 500 seeds i was hoping you kind seed collecting people can help me.

I only want a few seeds from different types but want a variety of types/colours. I don't have many swaps but if there is something you want that i have I'll happily swap. I mainly have veg seeds and a few flowers.

    Things I would like are

    fennel
    pot marjoram
    hollyhock
    delphinium
    buddleja

and anything else suitable for heavy clay soil in a semi shaded garden

    thanks in advance
    Jemma

You want to grow buddleja from cuttings (they're easy). I've always had them in my gardens, and never known them to grow from seed

          Hi two sheds
I currently have a purple one i grew from a cutting but i'd love to have a different colour if possible. Although someone down the road has a bright white one so i might sneak a bit off when i next walk past! lol

Make sure you have enough room the white one is a monster, I had one which reached 16' in one growing season!

              Hi

I can offer you some orange and yellow welsh poppies as well
as purple/bronze fennel seeds. I too have heavy clay soil
              and these all love it.
PM me if you are interested.

              Cheers

I love the white buddleja, but it needs constant dead-heading otherwise it gets covered with nasty brown flowers. As said above ^, it is a rampant beast.

I've gone for Black Knight, which is a struggle to grow (for me anyway) but remains quite small (but that might be because I keep digging it up and moving it)

Foxgloves love semi-shade, as does comfrey (I like the white flowered one, but have got the purple flowered Bocking 14 so it doesn't spread everywhere).

Sweet peas did well for me last year, even in a north border (no sun at all) : they flowered late, but lasted well

Calendula is incredibly easy (orange or yellow flowers)

Do you have a colour theme? Or are you open to anything?

I restrict myself to white, blue or black. I hate pink & yellow

open to anything :-) and quite happy for it to go a bit wild

basically the front garden is quite big and i have let my children help plan it. they want lots of different flowers and tunnels with trees/plants over the top and a winding path through it all. Around half of the garden is in the shade most of the day

I have some purple foxglove seeds which i collected from the backgarden last year and some sweet peas, i thought they needed full sun so will try them in the shady bits.

I have some yellow french beans and courgettes in yellow and green and though they would also fit in in the sunnier parts and add fun interesting things for the children.
