Nick did you sink a pot outside? Or sow in a seed bed?
No - I thought they'd take a while so put the seed in some damp vermiculite in zip-lock plastic bags - left it in the fridge for a bit, then put it in the shed at summer temp - not sure now how long it was left before I noticed roots coming, 15 months ?

My friend, who I got the seeds from, also gave me a few plants, as his has self-sowed.

succumbed to the temptation to have a look at what was available on Ebay - so now my PayPal account is a few pounds lighter and an order for 80 seeds of four different types will have popped up on some-one's computer in China (it is their national flower after all) - who said there was no real fun in decadence ?

Not Peony seeds but Lidl are selling peony shrubs this coming Friday.
All named varieties, Sarah Bernhardt, Inspecteur Lavernge, Karl Rosenfield, and others not named.
    Priced here at €6.99.

Thank you Bramble - I will check it out!

VC, not sure why I didn't spot them!
I also want some Orlaya grandiflora seeds for autumn sowing so I'll try them. I did get some seeds from Chiltern this year and had no shows for 2 varieties so I'm a bit worried about getting something out of the odinary from them.

NickD - what did you get?

    I opted for :-

I'm hoping for some peony seeds - quite what and which will be in the lap of the Gods. :-)

Thanks to Farendwoman I have some Tree peony seeds to sow.

Jekka McV, in her book "Seeds" says:-

    Paeonia delavayii - Tree peony

This seed has a double dormancy, producing roots in its first year andl eaves in its second. It needs two cold periods with warmth in between.

Collect ripe, fresh seeds in early autumn.
Sow individually in pots, using standard soil-less seed compost (substarte), either peat or peat substitute mixed with coarse horticultural sand.
Mix to a ratio of 1 part compost + 1 part sand.
Cover with coarse grit, then place outside exposed to all the weathers.
Visible germination occurs during the second spring.
Grow on in a cold frame for 2 years before planting out.

She doesn't have any advice for other peonies so I guess it will be the same.
