The ones I have are single flowered and blue, I think they are the 'real' afghan opium type direct
the flowers dont last long but are the size of a saucer on good plants, although Ive been adapting them to indoor starting and transplanting the last 2 years so not as good as they could be. Ill put a picture up when the first ones open should be next weekish

I didnt know there were multi-flowered types and that they were so popular?
Are they from a previous swap or just very well liked?
    Sincerely
    Steve

I shared the opium poppy in the 2016 circle but they were a mix of peony and frizzle types and ranged through pink to purple I think. WPG has shared blue himalyan poppies and welsh poppies in a past circle and Scarlet has shared perennial poppies in a past circle. There are lots of poppies around but they are just great performers once established and will self seed IMO. As for the big blousy ones you just cant miss them. I keep driving past a really dark red one and so want to pinch a seed head

Ive just been looking at different types online and I think the ones I have are blue in the middle and red around the edge so I was not 100% correct calling them blue. Will soon see..
The blue himalayan are stunning, such a vivid colour
Its funny you say about driving past one, we were in the car the other day and I saw an afghan type poppy growing inside a thorn bush that reminded me of this thread, I took a seedhead I hope is not too immature. look forward to sharing
    Sincerely

Aargh! White valerian seeds were ripening lovely, was just waiting for a proper dry day to collect them. Gardener turned up yesterday, dead headed them all and now I have none.

Eryngium just starting to flower so still hoping to have those to contribute.

Well, I have and I haven't. He's supposed to mow the lawns, trim the hedges, that kind of stuff (pretty much the jobs that my other half said he would do before we moved in together.) I still do most of the weeding, planting etc. But basically he turns up when he fancies it (once every few weeks or so) and does what he feels like. Pretty much ignores what I say I want doing (e.g. cut the flowering currant back) and cuts down the centranthus ruber instead. It's very frustrating.

He did at least water the outdoor chillies and other pots when I went on holiday so that's something.

I haven't really got anything else to share as yet. My opium poppies are yet to flower as I didn't sow them until Easter. On the bright side, perhaps that means they will come true to type, as most of the neighbours' opium poppies are finishing up round about now so shouldn't cross-pollinate mine. Mine are the named variety Lauren's Grape, which is a large single deep purple one.
