    Me please!

    Currently have germinating:

    Firestorm Runner Bean
    Lady Di Runner Bean
    Crimson Flowered

If I see anything different in the local gardeners market come May I'll add a few more to the mix.

    Unfortunately runner beans will cross.
Crimson Flowered? If that is the broad bean and is the only one you are growing that would be a good choice.

French beans are a good option to save from if you want to try out a few varieties.

Sorry a bit new to all the F1 and cross situation!

The Crimson is indeed a broad bean, will have a look for some French beans to add to the grow list this year.

The runner beans have been grown in the raised bed for a few years now, mostly as it's great fun watching the chickens jump for them and the yeild is so great they have loads of them to peck at!

We all start somewhere lots of info here and please ask if you have any questions.
Broadbeans will cross too but as you are only growing the one variety you should be ok.
Lovely to have you on board.

I've three sites for growing, one being a greenhouse, one being a raised bed about 10 meters away and another a good 30 meters away. Having read that runner beans need 1/2 mile at times I guess this isn't enough. What I also have is a load of old recycling boxes that I use for gooseberry trees, blueberries and so on, so I do have the ability to grow anywhere across the 1/3 acre.

The one issue that's brilliant but not so good in this scenario is we have a wild-flower area of the garden, about 70m sq and a load of fruit tress, this has led to loads of insects and bees that have been great for pollination, meaning cross pollination would be a very high risk.

I got some interesting seeds in a swap. Among them was some Mennonite Purple Stripe pole beans and Amish snap peas. Only got a few seeds of each to sow, hope they set enough to save
