  • 2014 seed circle

Since zazen999 is not running the seed circle this year (at least, that's how I read chris's post), I will volunteer.
    You can now sign up.
You can participate in the same way as last year, saving 2 kinds for everybody (or more kinds if you're really keen).
You can also send in seeds for fewer than everybody, so that everybody gets to choose what they'd like to receive. If you choose the latter option please offer roughly the same number of packets as people going for option 1 so that it's a fair deal. Any seeds that are not chosen will get distributed at random.
I would like to finish the circle this year, so please let me know what you're going to contribute by 10 November and send in your seeds by 10 December.

    participants:
    1. planetologist (carrot Autumn King, scorzonera long black, plus some to be confirmed)
    2. Scarlet
    3. marcofez
    4. sparrow100 (possibly chilli, squashes, mangetout, cape gooseberry)
    5. veggiechicken
    6. Norwich1
    7. Norwich2
    • snakeshack (sweet piquant peppers, achoca possibly oca, aji lemon drop, rainbow quinoa)
    • spanish gardener
    • Paulieb (possibly tomato, chilli or courgette)
    • jackyspratty (possibly cucamelon)
    • Samurailord (possibly tomato, chilli, squash, french beans, cucumbers)
    • The Cobra (chilli)
    • Stu8706
    • Kitchen Gardener
    • HavercroftHomegrowns (bhut jolokia chilli, electric daisies)

Well done on coming forward to take this on.

Put me down on the list for next year, haven't got a clue as to what I'll save yet.

I've saved millions of tomatoes in the last few years as there's no messing around with keeping the seed pure, so I might try something different, which is a bit more complicated (I'm aware of whats required for most things but never have the time to go for it), maybe chillis or courgettes.

Having said that I did get some Vernisage tomatoes (green, yellow, pink, black) from Bakercreek in the US which will be top of my list.

I have also joined the heritage seed library so will see what I get from there.

Well, yes - I probably could have been a bit more clear!

Add me as well, please, and thanks for stepping up to do this.

Not sure what I will be saving as I'm not certain what I will be groing this year yet, but probably tomatoes, chillis, squashes/pumpkins of some sort, french beans and possibly some cucumbers.

I'll join up. Again, not sure on everything that I'll be saving, but chillis will definitely be one.

                        Hello *waves*

Can I join too please? Like other peeps, am not quite sure what I will be saving. Chillies for sure, but you probably have enough of them. I'm trying for some squashes this year (bags and paintbrush at the ready!), mangetout peas and the giant cape gooseberry. But this depends a bit on how they grow/how tasty my slug population find them...

This is a noddy question, but is there an outline anywhere of roughly the quantities of seed we (I) need to collect to send in - ie enough for each person participating? And does the quantity change depending on what you grow? For example allowing 10 chilli seeds, but 20-30 bean seeds per person in the circle.

I've not done this before - sorry if it's obvious.

In previous years circles there's usually been a guide of roughly how many seeds to pack up. This does change with how good or bad the weather has been! 30 seeds per person would be a lot to save - I usually pack 6-10 seeds for toms, 12 for peas or beans, maybe only 5 or 6 for chillies because you won't get many fruit. Cape gooseberry a dozen, when I save parsnips or chard the seed is plentiful so I use a teaspoon!
