Good grief, that is mind blowing

Thing is, you guys are at the ‘coal face’ as it were, and know how much effort it takes to run the VSP abd the Seed Circles. It seems to me that if the latter can achieve a similar or better result whilst freeing up a bit of time for the admins, it’s a no brainer to just concentrate efforts on that.

We all start somewhere....I love tomatoes, I also love chilli plants (shame no one else near me does ) so I will always try to save some of those.

What do you like to grow?

Seed circles are all posted out the same time, they are sorted out at the same time and we also don't hold boxes of seed under the stairs.
    The seed is always fresh.
The VSP came about because the box of seed sent to Grapes homes via the post got "lost" several times, never mind the cost of the postage.

VC spent hours bagging up, listing and stocking, not to mention going to the post office every few days while running it.

NG runs an all in seed circle. so you can swap anything - you get a mix back.
She also runs a Flower circle.
VC has offered to run a random surplus seed circle - That will be a huge mix.
I run a tomato and a chilli circle.
I usually run a pea & bean circle but there wasn't many takers for that last year?

There's also been several cutting swaps and SP has run a chilli seedling swap.

I think that's enough for anyone wanting to try something new?

If anyone wants a certain seed there's always the swap boards and both myself and NG often have surplus circle seeds if anyone want to grow on for the following year.

^^^ When you put it all together like that, there's plenty of opportunity to get involved in swapping..

I am happy to provide starter seeds (older seed that needs TLC) to be grown and shared and I do state it in the circles as well.

Also I do tend to give people virtual slaps on the wrist as most of their seed is interesting, there is no need to find and grow some 100s or 1000s year old variety that was found buried in the bottom of a pyramid or similar. If you like it, save and share it. If you like moneymaker toms then you need to grow more toms

What is the difference between a VSP and a seed circle?

    VSP - Virtual Seed Parcel
Scarlet has toms and chillies, Sparrow has curcubits, lettuce and misc and Norfolkgrey has fruit, flowers, herbs peas and beans.
Each of us looks after packs of seeds and lists them so around November and again in March people can choose up to 20 specific varieties they would like and they send in different packs in exchange. The seed can be self saved or commercial and can be several years old.

    Seed Circles
This is where everyone aims to save enough seed from two varieties for everyone in the circle. Everyone sends it to the organiser, it is sorted and sent back. This means all seed is saved, fresh and there is no wastage however there is no say on what you receive.

    Veggiechickens excess swap
This was new this year and proved popular. You sent in excess seeds and got the same number of seeds out that you sent in.Again there is no control on what you get but all seed is within its sow by date.
