  • Yeast .

Cant remember where I saw the discussion about bread making and the unavailability of yeast.
It's being advertised in this werks weeks Lidl brochure.
    Sachets for 59 cents.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

I've not needed to check this out but I believe our local bakeries and supermarkets still sell packets of fresh yeast.

Try making sourdough bread. Then as long as you have flour you have 'yeast'!

              Living or dead?

They have the latter in the hospital shop (a Londis). I don't think they used to stock them (it usually has the kind of stuff you might have found in a GT News back in the day), but are clearly making efforts to support NHS staff (longer opening hours than usual, as well as stocking stuff like fresh veggies, raw chickens, etc.)

I didn't look for them in Lidl as I'm a vegetarian, but they did stand out in the Londis!

I've had no trouble getting chicken and I always keep yeast in so I've been ok....though flatbread made with yoghurt and no yeast is very good. I'm so thankful I have a milkman as now my boys are home I could increase the milk order but the shops were only allowing 2 bottles per family. My boys use over a pint a day each

Lol, my sourdough starter took ages to get going...and then I managed to inadvertently kill it off .

Add some beer to it or dried dates it will flow with life sooner than you think.

That's impressive, it'll last nigh-on for ages in the fridge.

Springs back to life when you feed it with flour and water. It is easier to keep rye flour starter (apparently) although just now rye flour is like gold dust! We used to have a white flour starter and a rye starter (Dusty & Elvis) but now we only keep Elvis going.

My sourdough's 8 year old it lives in the fridge usually it gets fed with wholemeal flour and occasionally with either spelt or rye if I can get it. I find Sourdough bread is very forgiving compared to baking using fresh yeast and just now I can't get yeast so sourdough it is

Both Aldis I've been to in the past two weeks had whole free range chicken Jay22. Don't know where you are, but one Musselburgh, one south side. Plenty in stock too.

We are through on the West Coast, no Aldi near us. We do have all the other supermarkets a bit away from us but none have had chicken for a couple of weeks! OH doesn’t go shopping until later in the day so maybe it’s just that we are missing it!

Got my stay at home for 12 weeks letter today...I’ll be stir crazy by the end of it!!!
