  • What do I do with stale sourdough loaf?

Earlier this week I bought a dated sourdough loaf from As*a. OH doesn't like the taste, and I could only eat so much, any ideas what to do with the rest?

It's so 'heavy', I had thought of cutting it into chunks and lobbing it at the magpies, squirrels and pigeons on the birdtable

    Anyone got any better ideas?

Breadcrumbs? They keep well in the freezer and are useful for all sorts of things.

I'm with your OH on this one as I don't like the taste either. Anything you did with it would still have that "off" taste.....birds etc will love you.

I've tried it toasted, with pate or making bruschetta and still can't get used to it. I suppose if you got some really strong cheddar you could make cheese on toast or welsh rarebit. Maybe someone else will have a better idea!

Would it be any good as bread pudding? It might reduce the flavour you dont like?

It would maybe make a savoury bread pudding. Make up a sort of batter like you would for the sweet type (omitting sugar, obviously!) and add cheese and skinned chopped tomatoes, any herbs you fancy and/or some dry mustard powder.
