  • Spearmint - what can I do with it in the kitchen

    Hi All

As well as commen garden mint, I've got some spearmint growing and wondered what I can make with it. Has anyone got any recipes for spearmint?

Can I make herbal mint tea with it do you think?

yep you can make herb tea with it, steap a few leaves in some water thats just gone off the boil for a few min, then remove the leaves and drink

you could coat the leaves in dark chocolate for a snack

add them to bread dough for minty bread

might go well with fish or chicken, maybe even lamb

Delia says that she uses spearmint instead of normal garden mint in all her cooking. If you want some recipes using mint try www.uktvfood.co.uk and put mint in the recipe search.

Mmm chocolate covered mint! Thanks for the ideas.

I got a spearmint this year instead of the usual mint and it is HUGE! The leaves are enormous, but full of flavour. Are they supposed to grow so big? I had visions of trying mint tea as we had in Morocco where they used absolutely loads of mint and also loads of sugar!

Mint needs a good cut through the summer so I would recommend that when its looking good that you give it a good chop. You can then dry the leaves out and store it for making teas and mint jelly The leaves fresh make great tea as well, I grow a few different types of mint as I suffer from IBS a lot and the tea really helps.
