  • Preserving Munchien Bier Seed Pods

I've grown Munchien Bier radish for the first time this year and we've enjoyed the seed pods in stir fries and salads but I was wondering if anybody has preserved them at all. Was wondering what they'd be like pickled maybe? We've got hundreds of the things, didn't realise quite how big the plants would get!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Alison, assuming you have "Rat's tail radish" grown for its pod's rather than the root, dry salt them for a few hours(6?), rinse then place in jars and pour over a boiling hot brine ie: 2pt water, 1pt vinegar, 3oz salt, 8oz sugar, 1 bay leaf, 2 garlic clove peeled and sliced, 10 black pepper corns, you can add other spices if required but this will do the job for a sweet pickle that will keep for a year, up the vinegar for a sharper and longer keeping pickle
Eat well, live well, drink moderately and be happy (hic!)

They are indeed a rat's tail type, incredibly easy they were too. Will try some pickled ones as above but put the remainder in the freezer and see how that goes. Am surprised how nice and peppery they are as after I'd sown them read some reviews which seemed to have them down as a gimmic.
