  • pie maker gadget or not

I took the plunge and bought a deep pie maker, so far made 10 pies and very I'm pleased with it cooks the pastry well no soggy bottoms , it takes 15mins to cook with pre cooked filling , have done beef pies and chicken pies will try fruit pies soon, I use shop puff pastry and roll it very very thin

Must admit I've just had to Google what a pie maker is I was unaware here was any such gadget. If I've got it right is it something that looks a bit like a toasted sandwich maker? Have only ever made pies in a normal oven - every day is a learning day.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

One of the sad things about getting older is that pastry gives me dreadful reflux/ indigestion .
        BUT....I do love pies!

I try to compromise by just putting pastry on the top of both savoury and sweet pies.

The advantage of this is that I never get a soggy botty.

        Melton Mowbray pies? Mmmmmmmmmmmm........

I make my own pork pies and have some lovely 4 inch pie tins with removable push up bottoms, they work very well. Pork pies in the shops are usually lousey and mostly deteriorated before you get them home. I used to swear by pork farms pies but they seem to have become too mass produced and they have reduced the salt content. I do like Harry Walker pies from Sai......rys however if they are fresh. I am struggling to understand what a pie making machine does, must look them up.

I haven't made pork pies for years. I used to hand raise them. A pie making machine wouldn't be much use for pork pies Bill, but I agree with you about the quality of most shop bought ones going downhill.
We have a local butcher who still makes his own which are pretty good.

that's the one the difference of a pie maker to an oven is the pastry cooks better imho and you heat up the machine then put the pastry in carefully so as not to burn the fingers then put the filling in and put the pastry lid on and when you close the machine it seals the pie around the edges, it cooks quicker than an oven
I will try to post pics in the next few days now I have finished working I'm an xmas tree grower so have been working for 30 days straight , just need some sleep now

it is 1000w so its cheaper than an oven to make pies
