  • Only in France????!

Went into our local Intermarche today to get food in for New Year and was astounded by some of the meats they had in for New Year
( bear in mind that NY is more of a celebration here than Xmas)

Antelope,Llama and Zebra along with the 'usual' Ostrich, wild boar, venison, oysters ( gawd...MORE oysters did I hear you say????)and shelf upon shelf of fois gras....

oh yes- and I spotted my first frozen frogs legs too!

Wasn't going out tomorrow evening but we are now, ordered 3 dozen oysters, half to be eaten off the shell and half to be cooked and eaten. First oysters of the holidays.

Must look in Intermarche tomorrow for some biche, that would be nice on Sunday.

KK had antelope for Christmas day, I just had turkey (scaredy cat, I know) The antelope steak was really nice though and dead easy to cook, just fried for 8 mins. He often has biche and wild boar. The funniest thing was the first time my mum came to stay she went completely gaga at all the offal in our local supermarket, I think she must have cleared the shop of all the "nasty" bits that you can't get in UK now

A copuple of people who will be there tomorrow don't like them raw but have never tasted them cooked so I'm going to cook half of them and have the others either with shallot sauce or a white wine sauce with spring onions. Cooked with bacon, sweet chilli sauce, celery salt and a drop or Worcestershire Sauce then topped off with grated parmesan. No longer than 4 mins under the grill and voila

And I cook moule a lot, one of J's favourites, great in soups, as a replacement for clams in Italian dishes, just perfect.

Sorry, don't know anything about it

But may well be asking people who want a free holiday in the Dordogne in the autumn to help chums with a gite complex, huge garden and need help, they provide the accomodation, use of the pool etc, organise it a bit like the vindage, communal mid-day meals, evenings alone, some use of a car etc etc.
