  • First corn on cob ready, how to cook??

    Hi All,

My first ever cobs are ripe and I can't wait to eat them tonight

Sometimes i boil but my fav way to cook is in the oven.

With these being very fresh do you have any suggestions on cooking times? I assume they will be reduced but not sure by how much.

I don't want to over cook my first ever

Thanks in advance and roll on dinner time!!

    Mandy

My preferred length of cooking time is zero. It tastes so much better raw

      Hi Scared55,

Never tried it raw, never even thought about it! The shop bought ones always seem to tough!

But now that I have fresh ones I will be trying it.

      Thank you, Mandy

If you don't like it, then it wasn't me - a bad boy said it and ran away!

Ours were really gorgeous, tender enough and very creamy. Pity is it's all gone now.

I should try that next year.

Whilst living in Tanzania it was common (with maize) to peel the leaves back, remove the silks, replace the leaves and bung the whole thing on the fire, so it cooks in its own juice. That is now a favourite at barbies, although it does come second to raw (IMHO).

Eaten raw within seconds of picking is the only way I like them. Yum!

I treat myself to one each time I visit my lottie and throw the husk to the hens and ducks next door!
Not much corn left on the cob for them I'm afraid when I'm finished, in fact it takes a lot of control to ration myself to one-a-day!
