  • Cardamom pods

Hi just wondering if anyone has cooked using Cardamom pods.
I came upon a recipe for Plum and Cardamom jelly and was going to give it a try.
Also, where did you buy the Cardamom.?

You get the cardamoms in the supermarket in the spice aisle! I've only ever used them in currys.

The jelly does sound delicious, I would give it a try...then you can let us know what it's like!

      I use them in chutney.
      Large supermarkets.
Best if you split them and scrape out the seeds...then you don't get the tough pod in yr mouth

I've used them when making curries. I buy them as Schwarz refills in the small cardboard boxes. For hot dishes I find it's easiest to break the pods open, scrape the tiny seeds out and smash them in a pestle and mortar, then add. Otherwise you have to pick the tough pods out at the end of cooking, although if you're doing that jelly it'd probably be better to leave them whole and easier/more visible to fish them out. Sounds delicious by the way!

I get mine from the local Indian supermarket and only tend to use them in rice, but Plum and Cardamom Jelly sounds great

blind rule is you can crush cordamum and add to any dish that tastes sweet or where ever you add suger or other sweetner like cakes, pies & puddings. may be never think of adding it to jams though ..

or just add it to warm milk with lil suger and drink

I nearly always put a couple of pods in with any rice I cook, savory or sweet - love that delicate flavour. I just pick out the pod shells after cooking, but leave the whole or crushed seeds in.

I think in jam it will be delicious.

Just noticed on twitter that a certain Markies have this recipe: CARDAMOM CHOCOLATE MOUSSE WITH FRESH CHERRY COMPOTE. Looks yummy. It's on cookwithmands.com.

Sorry that's an app you have to download. If anyone wants the recipe and I allowed I will copy and paste it here.
