  • Best Cappuccino - ever

Pardon serious grapes, for this bit of complete irrelevance, but I have just had the best, most satisfying home made cappuccino. Ever. And all because of two little ingredients. Cardamom and vanilla. When you're heating the milk, chuck in a couple crushed cardamom grains (the little black bits inside the pods- go easy at first, because a grain too much is WAYYY too much) and a few drops of vanilla extract. Then fluff and serve as per the usual. I like grated green and blacks.

I don't drink coffee but even so that sounds good!

Mine's Lady Grey or Lapsang Souchong for preference. Can't cope with the caffeine in coffee but can cope with tea, though it has to be loose leaf in a pot. When you see the brown stains from tea bags in a white cup from the tannin....sorry guys but that is yuck to me.

Green & Blacks 70% dark also makes great Hot Chocolate. A few squares in a BIG breakfast cup (we're talking a pint here), milk and sugar to taste. Nuked in microwave for 2-3 mins. Frothed up or to be mega fattening cream on top and even a splash of brandy if I'm really out there. Wonder what cardamom would be like in chocolate...mmm!

Oh! Oh! For a truly excellent loose leaf tea source, check out the shop in my signature. There's like 5 types of Earl Grey.

See what you mean. I found a Rosie Earl Grey in Australia in 2006 which I've never found anywhere else. Had tiny rosebuds in it and smelled divine. The supplier was quite happy to post it to me but it got too expensive by the time you added in the P&P. She also did a great ginger tea, black tea with dried ginger pieces in it. Wish I could find something like that over here....sigh

I get Lady Grey from Sainsbury's and the best Lapsang for me is Waitrose as no other supermarket does it in this area. It's 10 miles away so we only go every couple of months and stock up. A packet lasts us 2-3 weeks as we have it every day.

And I have to confess I take it on hols with me with a metal tea egg. Just ask for hot water at the hotel or B&B. My friends are used to it by now and just think it's funny. I can't drink coffee as I can't take the caffeine and I find it very bitter so have to laden it with sugar. So I don't bother. Mind you can manage a liqueur coffee occasionally...

Whittards also do it but it doesn't taste the same to me.

I have a recollection of cinnamon coffee in Winona Minnesota back in the old hippie days. Hmmmm
