Made this on the weekend....never stopped to think about how much I'd be making...(I had double the amount of toms) even when I had to put the mix into two pans for cooking. Wasn't till I was running out of jars that I realised how much chutney I had. 5.5 litres later & I think I'm done for the season!!!

Sounds ok by its self but when you add it to the apple chutney, plum chutney and two lots of cucumber relish I can now understand the look on my husbands face!!!!

Other green tomato chutnies I have tried pale into insignificance beside this one.

    Happy eating.

When you sterilise your kilner jars, do you do the rubber seal too? Is it ok to go in the oven to dry with the jars?

I just pour boiling water over it after washing it in hot, soapy water. It is not after all in contact with the chutney but providing the seal for the jar. This has worked ok so far.

I finally got round to making the special chutney last night and have some on my sandwiches today - too impatient to wait! As everyone has said before, it is really lovely. I've never made chutney before so am very pleased with myself.

My only question is how do you get rid of the smell of vinegar? It seems to have permeated the whole house! My coat was in the kitchen while I was doing the cooking and that's soaked it up, too. It's obviously transferred on to me as I can smell slight vinegaryness sitting here at my desk! Hmm, very pleasant. The coat needs to go to the cleaner's anyway, but is there anything I can use to clear the smell out of the house?

It's not so strong if you use the clear distilled stuff. I've not had a problem so I'm not sure how you clear it out.
