  • When will my Cream Legbar start laying?????

Hi, Does anyone know at what age a Cream Legbar will start to lay and how many eggs I can expect. I bought her in Nov 09 age 10 weeks and although she has a nice pink comb, still no eggs. Is this normal? or is she just too posh to push!!! Maybe I should have called her VB after victoria beckham??

First of all, is she crouching down when you put a hand on her back? It means she's ready to "receive" a cockerel If so, she's ready and expect them any time soon. Also, lift her up and put your hand underneath so you can feel her pelvic bones. If there's a space about 3 fingers wide between them, then she's ready, otherwise it'll be a few more weeks I'm afraid
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

Christie was about 26 weeks when she started a couple of months ago, Aggie (her sister) still hasn't but then she did have a bad start..

I can't remember exactly how old ours are...did we hatch March or May?
Anyway,we've only been getting an odd blue egg for the last week, despite the fact one of them had a very red comb and was crouching back in November.I think they've been waiting for the Springlike weather.

My cream legbars are fantastic layers. Hatched beginning July and beginning September they came into lay about five or six weeks ago and all three of them lay almost every day. I am very impressed by their output. Despite the two month difference between the girls the younger one was in lay only three weeks after the others.

I'm sure yours will not be too long now GS.

Oooh, that's good to hear RH.We were wondering if they were going to be more 'fancy' than useful!Hopefully our two will soon work out how to pay for their keep.

I was lucky and got a good strain. Picked up the eggs from a farmer not far from here. Although disappointed with the amount of boys I hatched the girls (so far) have made up for it. I've not kept CLs before but although having initially thought they were a bit wussy (particularly in the cold weather where they wouldn't go outside) I am rather pleased with them now.

Mike and Jennie (Bramble) had one of their brothers from me to put with their girls so I would like to think he produces good daughters for them.

One of mine started to lay a couple of weeks back, then I upset the apple cart by moving them into a pen so I could hatch some pure eggs. Stopped laying, and is just now thinking of restarting, so are the other two judging by the way their combs are reddening, and the way they are finally 'crouching' for the cockeral. They were bought in Sept and were young adults (09 hatch) then.
