we now have our broody hen back to normal(our thanks to camborne2),but the soft eggs have now changed, todays egg was like a balloon, with a tube attached, very like last nights chicken programme, everything perfect, but no coat on it,strong enough to be lifted out without damage,we think we know the bird responsible, but as she seems fine in herself and not in any pain i am reluctant to cull,we are getting some more limestone flour and will add it to the feed, weather is not helping, has been stormy on and off now for last two weeks,we have had some woolly jumper days that the birds dont seem to like, and i dont think there is any sign of a let up..we can tell summer is here, the rain has got warmer..veg and fruit rotting on plants,so more food for chooks, not going to throw it away, even raspberries going bad on the plant..

If you're adding limestoneflour don't forget the cod liver oil as well.
Be carefull not to overdo the extra calcium - it can be dangerous and cause more problems than it cures if you go OTT. You may just have a chook with inability to produce shells - maybe her shell cartridge has run out!
