Hexam's too far for me we don't get auctions like that anywhere near here, probably a good thing

Well Hayley, if you fancy a trip up to this neck of the woods, there's a Special Poultry auction in Penkridge on September 10th. I've booked in 2 of my Vorwerks, the other lone cockerel is going to Leek auction next week (kindly being taken by Mike and Jennie )

Just an update..............bid for and won, two Black Minorca's all for the princely sum of 12 quid for the pair!

Lovely shiny black/pearlecent green birds with white earlobes and big red floppy crests. Feisty beggers, they are POL so hopefully can expect some large white eggs soon!

I put them inside my colapsble dog run, which I've placed inside the run where I have a LS and Dorking. Put the floor tray on the roof and cut a pophole in the cardboard box I collected them in and after filling it with straw put it inside as a makeshift nestbox/coop!

After watching them for a while I decided to let them meet the dorking and LS. LS had a bit peck at them but like the Dorking they are too fast for her to catch. Left the cage where it is with the door open, but I think they should get on fine together.
One of the newbies has taken a liking to my Snadge cockerel which is next door. I caught them kissing through the wire and he is strutting around clucking and she is doing the same next door..........little floosie!

First auction I've ever bid at and the auctioneer chattered that fast I wasn't sure how much I'd paid until I went to collect chooks. Was going to bid on the next lot of LS which went cheaply, but I was so overcome with it all I missed them.
Appologies for rambling but early in the auction (I sat for 2 1/2 hours before bidding) the prices were astronomical...........after that time people got sick and wandered away, so fewer punters meant cheaper prices.

Next time I go I will make sure I only bid on lots near the end of the auction. Early on £110 for three Buff Laced Wyandotte pullets, £128 for Four Welsummer p.o.l. pullets, £280 for trio Light sussex LF & £180 for three LS pullets.

Just realised I'd spelled Hexham wrong and can't do anything about it. Of course it's got an haitch in the middle!

Love Black Minorcas I've got 1 and I think it's a "she" well I hope so anyway think my Jersey Giant might be a she as well. I think BM's are truly striking with their greeny-black plumage and it's the white ears that really sets them off isn't it

I'm looking forward to seeing these fabled large snowy white eggs they supposedly lay.

Might take the camera with me tomorrow and have a bit of a photo shoot!

I absolutely wouldn't dare! I've just been looking on ebay for a 'proper' picnic basket (my grandson is into picnics in a big way) then I thought; I know, I'll just have a little look at the hatching eggs. Boy is that addictive!!!! 27 pages of the things and I kept thinking; well I'll just look at one more. Good job I haven't a broody or she'd be sitting on all sorts of weird and wonderful things.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
