  • Obligatory chick pics!

OK, here are pics from this morning of our Lone Hatcher and their new friends...

They are a bit rushed, as I had to get them whilst they were off the nest, and before Mummy Hen realised what I was doing!!

(Mum is a Welsummer and babies are Barnevelders)

Yup, she is very proud of her babies, and gets all indignant when I try and add feed or water etc... goes all puffed up and squawks at me

Yep, I went out in the evening and just swapped an egg for a chick 3 times. I pushed them right under her wings, where the Lone Hatcher was cuddling up to her... she had a bit of a fidget, then just settled down again.

When I got home from work today, all the chicks were scoffing their food, and mum was just watching them... then they all turned and dived back underneath her - so cute!

They are sweet. Mums a pretty girl too. I've got one odd welsummer I was given as a broody last year, but she's such a good layer I wouldn't mind some more.

We did have pebbles in there, but mum has removed them several times, and when I replaced it for a shallower saucer, she kicked that over too....

Ha!...I used tiny ramekins with a tiny drop of water at the base- and mine used to sit in it

What on earth do other peeps use?

Having said that- my 10 week old chicks keep jumping into the goslings paddling pool with is only3"deep..you really would think they'd know better don't you?
.... And yes CA- there is a brick in it!
