  • Not quite Easter chicks

I am so pleased with Hector, my blue orp cock. Out of 12 eggs, 10 hatched, the other two had grown but not hatched. One died but that's 9 healthy hatched chicks out of 12
Unfortunately the first four we put under a broody hen, who looked like she was looking after them. Till I came home and found four chicks dead. Not a mistake I shall make again.
But as it's easter and they look so cute, I thought I'd share my pics too

Near enough as makes no difference!

You've had a good hatch rate! My LS X ISA brown crosses only produced six chicks from a dozen eggs. Can't grumble though as twelve would have been too many to cope with.

      Nice, strong looking chicks btw!

Thanks They are strong and sturdy, I can't tell you how pleased I am after the trouble I had with show stock last year. In fact so pleased we started both Incubators off this morning with another 24. Just in the interest of checking Hectors fertility/hatching rates you understand ;p

well obviously - all fair tests require more than one attempt and then an average performance can be determined!!

therefore it is VERY important for you to set more eggs

I'm glad you are happy with Hector - he is very beautiful!!
