  • I've got white ones!

Well, we made it all the way to Norfolk, and the Little Hen Rescue, and collected eight lovely white(ish) ladies to go with my eight brown ones.

They're safely tucked up for the night, and tomorrow they get to meet the brown ones!

They have more feathers than the ex-Batts, but still have bald bits.

When I let them out on the grass they all stayed together in a little group, except for the biggest, most feathered one, who left the group and started yelling at the cat, so they all joined in - they're much noisier than the ex-Batts, who just chortle at me.

We had fun catching them again to put them to bed an hour later, but I didn't think it was fair to shut them straight in to the coop as it was still light.

                Update to follow tomorrow...

Congrats! By the look of their combs they are in full lay as well? White eggs I suppose........... are they 'white star' hybrids?

                  Whatever they are............I want some!

I got some as well Well they're being lodgers just now at my daughters because I gave the spare coop away! She went to Coventry yesterday to pick them up, 2 for me, 2 for her and I've been over today to see them and have a cuddle. Mine are called Holly (of course!) and Lavender, Bec's are called Holly and Mistletoe. She's already had 5 very dark brown eggs from them so that's good too
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

I only had one egg from them today, but I expect there will be more tomorrow when they've settled a bit. It was light brown in colour, much like the palest of the ones I get from the Batts.

No idea what breeding they are, but they are mainly white, about six of them have the odd brown speckle, one more than the others, two are completely white...and bossy... and aggressive.

The biggest, most-feathered, whitest one just ran and attacked whichever of the brown ones was anywhere near her - she's a real bully. It's difficult not to intervene, to be honest, but they have to sort themselves out.

There is a timid little one though. She has the tiniest palest comb, and no feathers on her head which gives her a comically ugly look, like she has a tiny head - seems healthy enough, and at least she doesn't want to fight like the others do.

Ahhh s'good for you. They gonna look lovely mixed with your browns. They look a little like Pea which we got from a local breader / farmer. He called them Ambers but I don't know if they're a real bread or hybrid or just some name he plucked (sorry!) out of the air for them. The website is: Cambridge Poultry | Point of Lay Chickens

I think I read somewhere the white free rangers are called Amber Links/Stars and they lay dark brown eggs. Anyway congrats to all who got some.

Oh Glutton, just noticed you said the egg was light brown. Perhaps the eggs come in all shades or perhaps your new girl forgot to put the colour on in her excitement in her new home!
