  • Introducing 3 new hens to flock of 5

I've just been reading an older post about introducing 1 to a flock of 2 and it has raised a few questions.

One of the comments was that as the hen was a different colour it might be picked on.

I have 5 bovan goldline who are just about into retirement and not really laying anymore and am getting 3 young light sussex this pm (which has just made me think I don't know how young!). Will 3 against 5 give a better chance of intergration? They have a 8 foot square undercovere run, where their food and drink is and a much larger area to range so they won't be in each others faces (beaks?).

Do you think this will be ok?

    Grateful for any advice/comments.

P.S. I do have a seperate small coop/run we used when one was looking abit sick which I was going to put them in until bedtime.

There's only one way to find out! As everyone has said before, introduce them at dusk, and they should be fine. Don't be too tempted to interfere if there's any hassle, they'll sort themselves out soon enough.

Good luck, oh, and don't forget the pictures!
