impact crop or egg bound?

It's quite late in the morning already for chooks, so maybe she's had a feed already this morning? Is she tempted by corn or greens?

How does her comb look, red, pink, or paler?

She was like this when i opened up the coop at 7.00 am, she was fine yesterday, thanks

Maybe you could try separating her from the others for now, so she's not likely to get picked on.
They tend to have nasty habit of picking on the one's they know are weak.

It's hard to make any kind of diagnosis with only knowing about her crop. That's why I asked about colour of her comb. This is usually the first sign of a poorly chook, as well as droopy wings and lowered tail. It's amazing to think of the little things that upset chooks.

A few of mine had the right hump with me, cos I moved their nest box to a different position in the house and showed similar signs.

I'm not as qualified as most on here, but hopefully someone else will come along with more help, but we need to know exactly what is happening... as the if a poorly chook isn't egg bound and you give it the warm bath - it may make things worse than they already are.

Main things of interest in food and drink, comb colour, check droppings, and once she's separated you will know if she is able to lay or not.
It might be a case of just leaving in a dark place for 24 hours, but don't act on my diagnosis, wait for confirmation from better informed chook owners.

well it 8.00 ish, we have given her a warm bath, but i don't think its egg bound now as her crop it still full but she hasn't eaten anything today but she has been for her first pooh of the day.

shes in the broody run today we have given her a few drinks of water via a syringe and some cod liver oil plus a massarge of her crop

see what tomorrow brings thanks, comb still bright

It was probably her who laid the soft egg. It does make them feel a bit umpty. She should pick up fairly soon. I hope so.

lots of pooh this morning and her crop has gone down(cod liver oil!!)

Get your vet to check her out asap. Sadly my Marigold had an impacted crop and we lost her a couple of weeks ago. My comfort is she didnt suffer for long. Hope Joyce is OK asap.

It's not an impacted crop they dont feel squishy, here are the signs and what to look for in the future.

Impacted crop: Very large 'lump' on right side of breast. When touched, it's is rock hard and very lumpy, you can feel the pellets from when they last eat. Not interested in food

Sour crop: very large, very squishy like a wet sponge when touched. Later signs are laboured breathing and a clear or black fluid that runs out of the beak when tipped forward, lots of sitting around with eyes closed any where in run. Not interested in food or drink

Egg bound: tail feathers will be 'tucked' downwards giving a sloping bum shape, lots of sitting, normally on the box. Will still want to eat & drink.

Hope that helps with the diagnosis.
