I read the thread title, and author, and I asked myself "What has she bought now?"

lol tis all auntie mo's fault .... i haven't quite worked the logistics yet but i'm reckoning if i get 8 eggs hatching, and half are boys that leaves me with 7 girls in total .... BUT and tis a big but .... the boys WILL be dinner .... am planning on turning the nest box of the house into a broody/ baby coop by opening up the side, and adding a run, and making the nest area under the poop shelf, cos having to crawl in and retrieve the eggs is not exactly the best idea i ever had

Nah just call it a design oversight!

no auntie mo brought the incubator back yesterday ... and she knew i was broody

it wasn't a design oversight till i realised having a raising roof on the nest box was a weak point in the design with mr fox being about and me deciding to nail it on instead of putting hinges on it ... then deciding to put a poop shelf in it above the nest box
but it will be easy to cut some of the side out for a pop hole and add a run for them ... (i think)

fanks snadge .... is now hoping if they all hatch that they aren't all girls i soooo don't have enough space for 15 full grown egg laying chooks lol ... will be happy with a couple ... and hoping one of the silkies is a girl .... and some yummy chicken dinners

the good bit about having mostly marans though is that 1 you are supposed to be able to sex them and they will be the same breeds but hopefully different colours and aracuanas are cute i tried hatching them first of all ... and the silkies for summat ikkle and broody
