Our local poultry supplier charges £16 for bog-standard layers such as Rhode Island Reds and Light Sussex, £20 for things which are less common such as Buff Sussex and Welsummers and £23 for those things which are slightly more rare. I would imagine that a Silver laced Wyandotte would fall into the later category. Having said that I've seen POL Wyandottes advertised elsewhere for £45 each and, frankly, I'd expect a trio for that! I would imagine that if you are hoping to breed and perhaps show your stock in future, then you would have to pay a fair amount, but you'd be prepared to in order to get good stock. I think the prices charged for hens at the moment are getting ridiculous. With the sudden surge in chicken keeping, breeders are laughing. I think the going rate for common pure breeds POL are £20 - £25 (like RIR, LS, Welsummer), higher for others - a breeder down in South Norfolk was last summer apparently charging £50 for a POL Buff Orpington! Made me think perhaps that's what I should be doing ............ :-) Have sold my bantams in the past for just a fiver each. Am I mad??Comment

......ok. I've been quoted £50. For one POL S-L Wyandotte. I've seen a few breeders online charging about £45.
I'm not planning to go into the breeding and/or world of showing so I think I might pass on that offer and go for Legbars and the other Wyandotte varieties like Partridge. Partridge are my favourite (currently) but the final selection will be up to my OH.
I think I may have started something...my mum is talking about geting a few chooks now!

I could probably pick up a trio of SLW for about £40 in the local rag or auction.
You could always buy half a dozen SLW hatching eggs from eBay for round about a fiver!
