    How deep will Foxes dig?

    Hi,

    I'm just about to set up my first chicken coop on the allotment. We've set out an 18' x 8' run for the chucks and i will be using a super heavy weight poultry netting for the sides and over the top. I'd planned on burying around 18-24" of the netting around the edges, but i'm now concerned this isn't going to be deep enough to keep Mr Fox out!

    Also, has anyone had any experience with poultry netting? Someone at my allotment seems to think a fox could gnaw through it?

    Well when you did out new chicken run the first time we had a 7ft fence and it was dug 3 feet down, he not only managed to climb over the fence but dug under. Now we have wire dug down and flipped up about 4 ft down.

      bear in mind that you are protecting agains foxes and badgers, I have dug mine in a spade depth when I dug the trench I dug out 6 inches and laid the wire flat and well as deep so that they will hit wire as they dig down

      I've also put some old wire and barbed stuff into the trench so this hopefully will stop them digging down

        i think my aunt digs hers down about 15" from ground level,but i have done mine differently, by removing the soil to spade hieght, and laying chicken wire flat on the ground joining it all together with wire. i then infilled the soil, and regularily lay fresh straw on top which composts down, removing the soiled regularily. this keeps the area fresh, allows them to scratch around without injury, but ensures that it is totally foxproof.

            oh it ok i dont think foxes have learnt to use ladders yet.
