  • Hah! Let's see you eat my veg now!

Got a bit fed up with the chooks ripping apart my veg containers, and a bit paranoid about planting up my tomatoes, aubergines, corguettes and cucumbers in growbags, so I thought I'd have to nip to B&Q to build this:

Now I just need to stain it

    Excellent idea!!!!

Can't blame you!!- within 1/2 hr of our 6 chooks free ranging, they'd managed to eat all the winter lettuce!!!!!

It needs a roof mate - they'll soon be over the top lol!

I was curious about that. They have their wings clipped, and we used the same meshing around our flowerbed which they haven't made their way into yet, so hopefully there's enough of the rest of the garden to keep them occupied without resorting to jumping the fence!

I wonder if soft netting would be enough?????

Mine each have a wing clipped, if determined they can still get over the Leccy fence when it's not switched on - and its over a metre high!

We tried draping fruit netting over initially and they just pecked through it. I guess if you can stretch it and leave enough clearance then it's fine.

On your shed? What the hell?
I think I'm going to keep my chickens doped up on morphine or something. Would make the eggs pretty special as well

I have little bantams which fly out over the 1.2m electric fence whenever they fancy!!!

I've decided not to clip their wings- cos when they're ready ,they fly back into the enclosed area....I'm thinking if they go outside the foxproof area - then they'll need all the help they can get ( ie 2 functioning wings) to escape from a fox/dog by going up into a tree or back into he 'safe zone'!!

I think basically if they have enough to eat and do- and depending on the breed-you should be OK- time will tell though of course!

I've just come in from egg collecting and one of my youngsters is balancing on a sunshield of woven plastic that I've put up for them...they're meant to go UNDER the darned thing - not poop all over it!!!

Heh, mine are quite chubby and haven't taken to trying to fly yet, so I'm hopeful. I'm going to get a couple of water pistols at lunchtime, so if they decide to start sniffing around I'm going to bust a cap in their asses!
