  • Got my 1st bite today!

Went and picked up the girl's for my friend today and one of them bit me when I was getting them out the box.

None of mine did it, and the other 3 of their 's didn't either. Even tho one who's claws had been lopped a bit too short and had to clean 2 toe's of her foot. Bless her, she's my fav.

    Since when do chooks bite?

    Me with the girls.

Mine will from time to time- one of the gals especially- it's to do with the pecking order
I just put my hand over their head and eyes and firmly pressed them down onto the floor for a few seconds...just to show I'm dominant!!!
seems to do the trick- quick and painfree for all concerned.

..and boy do those bites hurt when they bite.....it's the way they don't let go for a few secs too...I've had a few bruises from them!!!!

Funny that, I tease mine to make them bite and I can't say it's ever hurt?

They seem to bite me then look at me to see if it's registered and when it hasn't must think "Well, that was a waste of bl**dy time, pointless doing that again"

One of mine - Topaz, who I think is probably boss chicken only they never fight (she's the one who will fly up to the dish of treats if you don't put it down fast enough) will give your finger a nip. It doesn't hurt though, so I guess she's not doing it in earnest! She pecks at my wedding ring and when I was giving her a little cuddly stroking the other evening she was eyeing up my ear-rings and I narrowly missed having them pecked off!

I got pecked today, bare legs in shorts with Joddy boots. Yesterday it was offering a dandelion to one of the whites who thought my finger was a worm

Had a couple of pecks so far, but nothing that hurts. I guess they either peck as a deterrent, or properly bite you if they are angry. Hopefully I won't ever experience the latter.

Nice picture btw Sheena. I like the caption.

My gals have 2 lads to keep them 'entertained'.....and I think they get fed up with one or the other demanding 'piggybacks'...hence their self-defense..otherwise it's a bit like Benny Hill.....

I got pecked yesterday by Bertha as well. She didn't mean it...she was trying to get my engagement ring...then the little bit of hair growing out my mole (not on my face!!) and instead pinched the fatty bit of my arm. Ouch!! Have a wee mark as well...was sore...I swore a bit and did something similar to what Nicos describes.

She just thinks everything is food!!

There's no entertainment factor in fishing Snadger... at least with the chooks you get them to come to you and quite easily, however fishing is a different kettle of fish! lol

buttercup is the only one to have bitten me and drawn blood, (which is why he became dinner and not elvis) i was cleaning out the house and cornered him and he went for me ... and yes it hurt a lot

the other times i've been pecked cos they think i'm food :-) and it's very cute

The only time any of ours have pecked & drawn blood was when I persuaded a little frind of the kiddies to hold out her hand with corn...how bad did I feel?

Did they try and steal your rings, Lynda? They've taken quite a fancy to one I wear all the time because my lovely Nan left it to me. Don't think she ever envisioned it ending up in a chicken's crop. They don't exactly bite when they do it, just try to yank it off, which can be painful if they grab it right.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
