    Goodby my little hen

    The one that was poorly a bit ago,the other hens were attacking her,i took her out yesterday,gave her some TLC,seemed to rally very slightly,but was gone this morning,little head resting to one side,she seemed all skin and bone,yet she has been eating,i recone the others know,i would swear they were crying,sounded destressed,have had a good look about and things look fine,rest in peace amber link.
    NOW for the next stage,have looked at variouse methods of funerals???,what do you peeps do,i do not want to bury,have looked at defra and they not clear about our pets,advice please.

    Sorry about your hen, Lottie. At least you gave her a few more months or quality life.
    As for disposal, I put them in a plastic bag, into the rubbish bin. All our household waste is burnt and turned into energy so, I llke to think that they go out in a Blaze of Glory!!

      Pet animals
      You are allowed to bury pet animals.

      A pet animal is defined in the regulations as “any animal belonging to a species normally nourished and kept, but not consumed, by humans for purposes other than farming”.

      This does not apply to farm animals such as sheep, cows, pigs, goats and poultry.

      Farm animals must be disposed of using an approved disposal method for fallen stock.


      Reading other forums (Omlet, Accidental Small Holder, etc) consensus is double bag and Household Collection.


      There is even a Defra guide on disposal of Wild birds on other pages in .gov

      Place bird in Bag by turning bag inside out. then Double Bag and disposal in household waste.

        Sorry to hear of your loss of little Amber. It is distressing when we lose a loved pet. You are a very caring and conscientous owner, take comfort that you really tried your best for her.

          Aww...sad news indeed. you get to miss their strange,individual ways don't you?

          Ours are also double bagged and sent on a final tour of the Normandy countryside (courtesy of the binmen)
          They too are eventually incinerated.

              Thankyou peeps,just cought up,she was trebble wraped and placed in the black bin,the others know something different,they will settle down,MR said why not get another white one,no way said i,the 4 left gives us more than enough eggs,plus the bother of introductions,would not be fair on them or me.
