  • Free hen house/run plans?

    Hi Guy

Any idea where you can hold of these for free? Can't source any books and the internet searches always result in your credit card details being required.

    Hope you can help?

Thanks, have seen that one. We have already built a run, but it was made to measure for our girls. I was after plans in detail for Arks or bigger hen houses and runs. We have a project in mind

There are lots on peoples blogs here I have 2 on my one ,1 free ,one not .
I wouldn't build my big one as i have found its too slim :/ making it hard to fix perches .still easy to mod i guess. My next one il make ( seeing lots of others now ) would be a normal shed ! make or buy the nest box and fix on the side . Walk in sheds make it so easy to clean/manage

Cheap Shed. Convert it as above. That's what I did AFTER buying an overpriced and unsuitable piece of .... At least I can use the .... one for quarantine purposes if I ever need to!

There's a book called 'Poultry House Construction' by Michael Roberts. (it's one of the Golden Cockerel books) We used this in combination with our own ideas and combined them into a back-of-a-fag-packet type blueprint (actually it was biro'd on the back of an old envelope) from which a carpenter made us our lovely chicken houses. The book does have detailed plans for arks and traditional coops, plus larger houses. It also has plans for a broody coop and a 'sin-bin' and has been invaluable to us. I'm sure the author wouldn't recognise the finished articles as we have adapted the plans quite a bit, but for giving you ideas about the correct size ventilation holes, perches and nest-boxes it was really useful. We probably wouldn't have known where to start without it. If you'd like it (and if I can get it back from the carpenter) PM me your address and I'll pass it on. (last time I saw it it was a bit battered, but still in one piece)
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.
